Galeano

La historia Juan Galeano es un poco diferente a las historias que se oyen hoy en día entre artistas de la cultura rock-pop en Latinoamérica. Este músico Colombiano de 26 años quien desde su adolescencia se intereso por las rutas más alternas en la música, tomó el contrabajo a los 18 años y después de varios algunos estudios y experimentos musicales se va a Holanda para terminar sus estudios de jazz en uno de los mejores conservatorios de Europa.

Hizo tours y conciertos por varios países europeos acompañando algunos de los artistas más prominentes de la escena local de jazz, pop y música del mundo. Y fue en uno de estos conciertos donde después de ver las reacciones del público que Galeano decidió empezar su propio proyecto en el que pudiera explorar los nuevos sonidos que la nueva música latina tenía para ofrecer.

The story of 26 year old Colombian born musician Juan Galeano is a bit different than your average Latin artist, into music since his early teens he was always attracted to the less exposed side of music. At the age of 18 he took up the double bass and after various music studies in his native Bogotá, he went to The Netherlands to finish his Jazz studies; He toured and gigged in different European countries with jazz, pop and world music accompanying prominent artists from the scene. It was on one of those gigs when he realized he wanted to have an own project where he could explore with the new sounds that Latin Music had to offer. In 2004, after playing in small clubs and accompanied only by his guitar, he puts together his band La Sociedad Mundial with whom he recorded his first independent self entitled CD. During the 2 next years he played in festivals and concerts in Holland, Denmark, Belgium, the U.S. and Colombia. With his high energetic performances he opened for Colombian superstar Juanes and has shared stage with bands like the mars volta and amparanoia.

Galeano´s music is, as he likes to describe it, “melancolombian”, the root of his songs will always be based on the nostalgic moods of the traditional Colombian music but he transforms it into a sonic blast that ranges from roots rock and alternative to body shaking Latin grooves. Galeano is a multi-instrumentalist that believes in “giving the music what the music deserves, not more not less” which comes across in his light yet eclectic songwriting skills. Lyrically, he takes us through bitter love stories full of hope and despair as well as self awareness songs that incite self consciousness. His self produced new E.P. De la 6ta a la 22 brings us a more song-oriented Galeano that is both raw and appealing. His single entitled also De la 6ta a la 22 is a crisp guitar driven song that together with Galeano´s frantic melodic phrasing insinuate a new kind of Latin oriented powerpop that is much needed these days. What he brings to the table seems familiar but at the same time enigmatic and fresh. After spending the last 5 years of his life in Europe Galeano is back where he belongs, within the beautiful chaos that he calls home, so keep your eyes and ears open because the sounds of Galeano are coming soon to a world near.
